What is my heart happy for?

Heart

In my last post, I talked about my new project and doing things that will make me happy. Well, I want to expand on that. I want to do things that make me a better wife, a better friend, a better person.  This will be an evolving process. It may mean that I need to just find a way to sing a song, while I get ready for my day. It may mean that I need to learn a new language. It may be as simple as just making a bowl of soup on a wintry day.

There are so many things that need to happen, while I learn and make these changes. For example, I want to make sure that the reason I go to any meeting or event is because I actually want to be there, not just because I’m trying to please someone or not upset someone. I know it may sound simple, but I think a lot of us end up being people-pleasers and doing unimportant things when we could be using that finite amount of time for something more productive.

Being productive is important, as is having real breaks to make life more enjoyable. Today, I played Dance on Broadway on the Wii for a half hour. We all need to do things that make us laugh and smile and enjoy our day. While some may say this is unproductive and a waste of time, I found it to be fun exercise that made me giggle a lot! This was a worthwhile activity for me.

Some of the goals in my Travels through the Heart Project include (in no particular order):

  • Taking classes
  • Attending more workshops
  • Devoting more time on my blog
  • Taking photos daily
  • Sleeping many hours a night
  • Learning to cook creatively
  • Listening to Music
  • Dancing
  • Exercise
  • Travel
  • Making more photo books.
  • De-cluttering
  • Prayer
  • Meditation
  • Reading more
  • Dressing up
  • Lots of giggles
  • Etc. Etc. Etc.

Even though this list is huge, I know it’s far from comprehensive. I will have my hands full, but I’m excited.

My first big action is to tape this list up on my wall, where I can look at it daily and be reminded to focus on my goals and not get caught up in the minutia of the day (I’m sure I’ll keep adding to it!). I encourage all of you to do the same!
